What is PT-141?
PT-141 is another name for bremelanotide, which acts on melanocortin receptors. The FDA-approved product Vyleesi is indicated for certain premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). It is not approved for men or for enhancing sexual performance.
Why people ask about it
Low sexual desire and difficulty getting or keeping an erection are different concerns. Men asking about PT-141 should discuss the evidence and established ED options with their provider; use for male ED is outside Vyleesi’s approved indication.
Evidence & important considerations
Vyleesi can cause nausea, temporary blood-pressure increases, and changes in skin pigmentation. It is contraindicated in uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease. Approval of Vyleesi does not mean every product labeled PT-141 is FDA-approved.
